How to Link Related Posts in WordPress with Jetpack

Helping readers of your WordPress site find more of your content that may be interesting to them is one of the most requested features in WordPress. And it’s one of the hardest things to do, from a processing perspective. Here is where the Jetpack plugin from WordPress.com and its Related Posts feature comes in.

Analyzing language for similarities of content takes a lot of computing resources. Because of this, some hosts will block the use of most related posts plugins, and other hosting will just get noticeably slower when you run one. Jetpack does all of this processing on WordPress.com’s servers, so your site takes no performance hit when you use it for related posts. It’s also pretty quick to turn on, especially if you’re already running Jetpack. Here’s a video explaining how to help your readers find more of your great content:

Here’s an explanation of it in pure text, if that’s more your thing…

Adding Similar Posts to the Bottom of Your WordPress Content

  1. Have Jetpack installed. Here’s a Quick Guide about how to install Jetpack if you’ve not already done that.
  2. In the left sidebar, go to “Jetpack > Settings”. Jetpack is at the top of your sidebar, right under “Dashboard”.
  3. Navigate to the “Traffic” area of the Jetpack Settings area. That’s a link at the top in the middle.
  4. Find the “Related Posts section. It’s down the “Traffic” settings page, third from the top at the time of this writing. Toggle that section on.
  5. Customize the settings for how you want the section by look. You can toggle on and off a title, and whether or not it should show your featured images. Note the beautiful preview available there.

You’re all set. Adding “Related Posts” to your WordPress site is a great way to make your site stickier for visitors, and with Jetpack it’s pretty easy. Happy blogging 🙂

Yay! 🎉 You made it to the end of the article!
