Mailchimp is well-known for providing straightforward solutions for email marketing, and good-looking landing pages are one of the benefits the company offers. Since they are integral to any campaign’s success, in this article, we will show you how to create a landing page in Mailchimp.
Landing pages are where business takes place, so besides looking nice, they also have to provide certain functionalities that encourage easy conversion. Let’s see if we can create one together. Ready?
How to create a landing page in Mailchimp using the built-in templates
First, let’s see what we have to work with.
Mailchimp allows you to create pleasant-looking emails, and it would be a shame if those emails led visitors to a terrible landing page. Luckily, Mailchimp offers nice landing page templates – even with the free plans.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t offer a wide selection of these templates – only nine. But the good news is that they are effortless to use and can be customized, allowing users to create beautiful and functional landing pages which can cover a wide array of business needs.
We will explain how to get started later in the article. But first, let’s see these nine templates:
How to create a landing page in Mailchimp, and which template to choose?
Mailchimp made your choice easier by dividing templates into two categories, lead generation and product promotion. Each category has two types of landing pages – basic and themed. What you choose is up to you, because they all come with the same number of content block types – 12 (except for the Gardenhouse and Simple, which have 11).
So, in essence, those landing pages all provide the same functionalities. It all comes down to how much space you need to properly present your business and persuade people to take action. If you are short on time, then the simpler Mailchimp landing page examples are advised – mainly because they have less space you need to edit.
The process of creating a landing page using Mailchimp templates will be the same, no matter which template you choose. So, let’s show you how to do it:
How to create a landing page in Mailchimp step-by-step
So, how to create a landing page that will generate conversions? Let’s begin:
1. Designing a landing page in Mailchimp
On the homepage, choose Create:
Then go to Landing Page:
Next, choose a name for the landing page (visible only to you) and the audience the page is meant for:
A screen with the available templates will appear, and you can choose one. After that, you can start creating your ideal Mailchimp landing page.
It’s worth mentioning again that the editor and the process are the same for all templates. For this example, I chose a Mailchimp landing page template called Simple, but the process applies to all templates.
The editor is easy to use. You can edit blocks, change styles, and insert images and text. The only restriction is your creativity.
If you select an image or a text and image block, the Creative Assistant will appear, allowing you to customize the content.
If you select a text block, the text editor will appear. It offers numerous options for customizing your text.
After finishing the design of your landing page, check everything one more time. If you are pleased with the results and are ready to continue, just click Save & Close:
2. Setting up a landing page in Mailchimp
Now that we have shown you how to create a landing page in Mailchimp from the design aspect, it is time to deal with the less fun (for some people) part – the technical setup.
Some steps in the process include: editing the page title (the one visitors will see in their browser), site icon, audience, social share preview, and more. Luckily, it sounds more complicated than it is. Setting up the page to go live is as straightforward as designing it. This screen will appear:
First, choose the page title and site icon. Keep in mind that the page title will appear in the browser’s title bar.
Social Share Preview
Next, you will need to edit what people on social networks will see:
Come up with text that will entice people to click. You will also need an image, and it needs to be at least 200-by-200 pixels. If you want it to look good on high-resolution devices, make it at least 1200-by-630 pixels.
URL editing
In this section, you will choose the URL of your landing page.
Unfortunately, if you’re on the free plan, you won’t be able to choose a URL. If you want to have a custom domain, you will have to get one of the paid plans.
Setting up audience and tags
This section enables you to choose the audience for your landing page. If your design has a signup form, you can add up to five tags to any visitor who subscribes.
Tracking
You can choose ways to track your campaign’s success: Mailchimp, Meta Pixel, or Google Analytics.
This notification will tell you that your page is live:
That’s it. 🤩 Your page will be live on the web, but it will not be indexed. This means no one will find it through Google. It will only be accessible to those who get a direct link from you.
Now that we’ve learned how to create a landing page in Mailchimp, all that’s left is to drive traffic to it. You can use social media, paid ads, or even word of mouth. It’s all up to you.
Should you use the built-in Mailchimp landing page templates?
The bottom line is that the Mailchimp templates are an excellent choice for beginners. They are straightforward, easy-to-understand, easy-to-use solutions that will satisfy most needs of most marketers. However, being easy to use often comes with poor features and limited customization options. While I can’t say that Mailchimp is skimpy in that department, there are a few things that experienced marketers (who generally need more options and features) will miss.
For instance, some users will be disappointed by the lack of A/B split testing and special content blocks (image carousels, quizzes, etc.) Also, you cannot add custom HTML code or show/hide elements on desktop/mobile. That being said, all these drawbacks may seem substantial for advanced users, but they are not that important for beginners.
Final thoughts on how to create a landing page in Mailchimp
Easy to design and set up, these landing pages are every beginner’s dream come true. They provide (almost) everything you need to create a landing page that drives conversions. The best thing is that they are available even with the free plan. Sure, there are some drawbacks, but the pros certainly outweigh the cons.
