Lately, I’ve learned that there are three sure things in life – death, taxes, and Awesome Motive acquiring popular WordPress businesses. 😅
That third certainty is what prompted me to write this post and let you know about the latest addition to their portfolio.
In early July, Awesome Motive added another well-known brand to its collection with the acquisition of the popular BuddyBoss theme/plugin.
If you’re not familiar with BuddyBoss, the basic idea is that it helps you create an online community with WordPress. People can use this type of community functionality for online courses, membership sites, forums, or just generally any type of community.
It’s actually a fork of BuddyPress and bbPress, which it previously used to rely on before forking them in 2019.
As with other Awesome Motive acquisitions, you can probably expect BuddyBoss to start being heavily cross-promoted across WPBeginner and many other plugins in the family.
My guess is that you’ll also see some pricing tweaks. Even if the prices don’t change, you might see Awesome Motive implement the same type of perpetual first-year discount (and then regular price renewals) strategy that it uses for other plugins.
If you’re a BuddyBoss user, though, there is good news. Except for Tom and Michael (the BuddyBoss co-founders), the rest of the BuddyBoss team will be staying on in their current roles, including Graham Hoffman, the General Manager.
Tom and Michael will be using the exit to focus on their Rapyd managed WordPress hosting service.
