WordPress on AutoPilot: 3 Ways AI Plugins Can Help Your Content, Customer Care, and Agentic Work

It’s funny how “putting WordPress on autopilot” meant a completely different thing just a couple of years ago. It used to involve things like Zapier, IFTTT, and a couple of WordPress plugins that emulated those tools inside WordPress UI. Nowadays it’s all AI.

Frankly, if you don’t have an MCP hooked up, do you even WordPress?

Okay, we don’t have total nerd out here, but we will get into the nitty gritty a bit and talk about some cool ways to automate your site – and frankly when it comes to content, customer care, and agentic work. What follows is a quick guide on how WordPress AI plugins can help you do your everyday WordPress work.

AI WordPress Plugins.

Three ways WordPress AI plugins can help run your site

You likely have to juggle many responsibilities and roles with your site: content writer, marketing expert, PR, designer, web developer, customer service rep…the list goes on. Without the budget, time, or people-power to manage your site, what can you do? This is where LLMs can shine. The three situations I offer here are great ways to use AI/LLMs. What’s more, WordPress plugins can bring them to you without the need for code or technical knowledge.

1. Using AI for agentic work

We’ve all heard the term: agentic work. It’s where the mysterious AI agent does the job for us.

However, one big issue if you want the agent to work directly on or with your WordPress site … it doesn’t have access.

And giving your agent access is not about sharing your login and pass. The agent needs a different path of access.

This is where MCP comes into play. MCPs are the interface between AI and external tools, software, databases, etc. Basically, it’s the interface between AI and outside data/information. In our case, that outside data is your WordPress website.

With MCP installed, AI agents will be able to interact with your site directly. In other words, you will be able to tell the agent to work on some content, install a plugin, find a solution to an issue, etc.

Nowadays, there are tons of MCPs available for WordPress, so I will just highlight one of them that I found the most interesting, but you can surely find at least 3-6 more in the repo that do (or at least say they do) similar things.

The plugin is called Easy MCP AI.

The developer promises it’s the most complete WordPress MCP that’s free. It comes with more than 240 total tools. This includes 96 core tools for WordPress (interact with posts, pages, media, users, comments, etc.), 90+ plugin-integration tools (WooCommerce, ACF, SEO plugins), and 50+ data-integration tools. There’s one-click OAuth with per-scope consent (for Claude Desktop, Cursor, etc.).

Most interestingly, it also integrates with Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Ahrefs and other analysis tools like that. This means that you can use AI to ask about your traffic stats, trends, analyze your results, ask for suggestions and more.

The dashboard does a good job to present all the settings, statuses, and abilities clearly. There are also guides on how to connect things with your favorite agent.

The plugin is also modular, so you can enable/disable skills or integrations as you need them. For instance, depending on the plugins you have installed, or the exact abilities you need:

With all that set up and integrated with your AI agent, you can now start asking questions about your site or give out tasks for the agent to do directly on the site.

2. Setting up automated customer service with AI

Customer inquiries can be stressful, especially if you’re a micro or small business without a dedicated team. Again, AI can help by being an unemotional, unbiased, and helpful assistant that works to resolve queries and redirect customers around the clock.

Moreover, with the right setup the AI chat can respond based on the information found on your site – posts, pages, even WooCommerce products.

There are some fantastic AI plugins that can handle this. One of the main such solutions is Hyve.

Hyve is not a classic AI chatbot like the early solutions of this kind. Hyve’s main selling point is that it’s trained on your own content. The way this is handled is through retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). It searches through posts, pages, products, and other content you choose, then generates answers based only on what it finds there. Because of this, there’s way less chance for hallucination and other common AI quality problems.

The setup is also simple with a clear two-step onboarding. Just connect with AI and then start creating your knowledge base.

Hyve works either through Hyve Connect – the tool’s own AI model connection, or you can provide your own OpenAI API key and the pick the specific model to use.

That is all free. However, there’s a lot more features waiting in the pro version. Just to name a few:

  • You can add more context to AI answers by uploading additional PDF, DOC, CSV, and MD files, and then have Hyve answer based on those.

  • You can enable page awareness. This means that the chat now knows which page the visitor is looking at as they’re asking questions. This can be very useful, particularly when dealing with WooCommerce products.
  • Perhaps most interestingly, you can turn conversations into leads. You can grab those leads in a couple of key moments: before the chat starts, when Hyve can’t answer, or when a visitor asks to speak to a human.

You can get Hyve Pro for $99 lifetime. This means that you get lifetime support and updates for one website.

3. Using AI for personalized content creation

First things first, generating a whole blog post from a single prompt is not the best approach. Very likely, it never will be. The reason is simple; it’s very hard to make your article stand out from the crowd when everyone else is using the exact same tools to generate their articles, too.

Instead, my advice is to use AI/LLMs as a way to generate and curate content for small, mundane tasks that are more ‘technical’ yet consume your time. Think of transactional email writing, meta description optimization, image captioning, or comment responses rather than full-scale articles.

There are a few plugins available that can help here. One of them is AI Puffer.

Its features are centered around content generation and chatbot, but you can use them in specific, more individual ways.

For example, you can ask the plugin to help you rewrite your published pages, or generate image alt texts.

As you can see in the image above, you can also select your model and tune up individual instructions responsible for generating certain parts of the text.

AI Puffer can also set an automation for you to reply to WordPress comments. Plus, you can customize this automation to hit only when there are certain words or phrases present in the source comment.

There’s more functionality there – with the ability to generate whole blog posts of course as well – but as I said at the beginning, I haven’t had much luck nor believe in this kind of AI help for running a blog. But you be your own judge and check them out too.

WordPress has become self-aware…

Along with thousands (if not millions) of others, I’m using LLMs and AI to help in areas where an extra pair of hands or eyes are otherwise necessary. This can be as simple as running ideas past an impartial ‘parser,’ passing off technical writing tasks while you focus your attention elsewhere, and more.

I’ve used all the major AI/LLM platforms, and been a premium member of both Claude and ChatGPT, and I’m impressed with what WordPress plugins can achieve. I think you will, too!

If you have an opinion on using AI and WordPress together, I’d love to hear about it in the comments section below!
