Wix Pricing and Plans Explained: Which One to Choose and Why (2024)

Wix is one of the most popular website builders available. The tool is easy to use, comes with hundreds of high-quality templates, and offers integrations with hundreds of popular tools. But which plan provides the best value? I’ve taken a close look at Wix pricing to help you figure that out.

Note that the prices listed in this article are based on US dollars. Wix offers plans in a variety of currencies including Euros, Australian dollars, and more. If you live outside of the US, the plans will be the same, but the pricing may look different. However, the pricing is often quite similar, so you can use this article to get a rough idea of how much you’ll pay regardless of where you are.

Wix pricing

In this guide, we will explore:

By the time you’re finished reading, you should understand the cost of Wix premium plans and know what Wix plan is best for your business.

🆓 The free Wix plan

We generally don’t recommend using a free site for a business website, but when we’re talking about Wix prices, it’s important to note that Wix does offer a free plan. The free plan gives you access to the Wix site building tool, SEO tools, quality hosting with 99.9% guaranteed uptime and great loading speeds, and hundreds of professionally designed templates.

Unfortunately, the free version of Wix also comes with strict limitations:

  • Maximum storage of 500MB
  • Maximum monthly bandwidth of 500MB
  • No ability to get rid of Wix ads
  • No ability to accept online payments
  • No access to Google Analytics

These limitations make the free version of Wix alright for a hobby site or a portfolio, but less than ideal for a business site.

🗺️ Wix pricing

Wix used to have a complex payment scheme with tiered plans for personal websites and a separate category of plans for business/ecommerce websites. This was eliminated in 2023 and replaced with four straightforward plans for personal, small business, and medium-sized business websites.

Here’s a  quick look  at what these plans have to offer:

Wix pricing: Website plans

Business Free for one year Unlimited 100GB 10 hours Standard $384/year
Business Elite Free for one year Unlimited Unlimited Unlimited Advanced $1908/year

The Core plan is ideal for anyone looking to open a website for their hotel, restaurant, or events-based business. 🙋‍♀️ Who this plan is best for

This plan is ideal for medium-sized businesses that sell a wide range of products and want to build brand loyalty.

🤼‍♂️ How do the Wix plans compare to the competition?

Understanding Wix pricing and plans is great, but in order to make an informed decision, you’ll need to understand how Wix stacks up against the competition. To help you with this part of the decision, we’ll look at three options: Squarespace, Shopify, and WordPress + Bluehost.

Squarespace

Squarespace is a popular website builder, powering almost 3 million websites. The company offers four plans:

Squarespace pricing

You’ll note that the first Squarespace plan, Personal, costs the exact same as Wix’s Light plan: $16 per month. However, it has some additional features that give it the upper hand: unlimited storage (including video storage), SEO tools and analytics, and audience management tools.

As for the other pricing plans, they’re actually more affordable than comparable Wix plans. You can get access to basic ecommerce features for just $23 per month, plus a 3% transaction fee. Or you can pay $27 per month for access to more advanced ecommerce features without any transaction fees. And if you want advanced shipping and discount tools, you can access them for just $49 per month. In other words, for most users, Squarespace is more affordable.

There is, however, a notable exception: if you want to manage hotel bookings, restaurant bookings, or another type of service-based business, you’ll need to pay for Squarespace extensions. These features are built into every Wix plan with ecommerce functionality, so if you’re planning to build one of these types of businesses, you may find Wix more affordable.

Shopify

Shopify is a specialized ecommerce website builder that powers over 4.1 million active websites. Shopify has three pricing plans:

Shopify pricing

As you can see, Shopify pricing is much more expensive than Wix pricing, with the Basic plan starting at $39 per month, plus significant transaction fees (2.9% + $0.30USD for most credit cards). So if pricing is your main concern, you’ll probably want to avoid Shopify.

However, it’s worth noting that Shopify comes with advanced tools for displaying ecommerce products and managing physical inventory across multiple locations. You’ll also get significant shipping discounts when shipping through USPS. This means you might save money if you’re shipping a lot of products via USPS.

Bluehost + WordPress

The final option we want to look at is Bluehost + WordPress.

Bluehost is a highly respected web host that powers over 2.1 million websites. Their entry-level shared hosting plan for a WordPress site is only $2.75 per month for your initial year. To lock in that price you are required to pay for the full year up front, but if you do the math, that’s only $33 for the entire 12 month period. That puts it significantly below even the cheapest Wix pricing option.

WordPress is a free Content Management System (CMS) that powers over 810 million websites, or 43.1% of all websites. The base WordPress system is a bit more complicated to manage than Wix, but the Gutenberg editor makes it easy to build pages without knowing any code. Moreover, there are thousands of plugins – many of them free – that you can use to add features like ecommerce, paid memberships, online courses, and more. This makes the software much more flexible than a Wix website.

Best of all, if you use Bluehost with WordPress, you can take advantage of the Bluehost website builder. This website builder uses WordPress, which means you can use all of those plugins we mentioned, but simplifies the process of creating and customizing your website. It’s still a bit more complicated than Wix, but it’s more accessible for first-time website builders than the usual WordPress tech – and you won’t pay anything extra.

All in all, the cost of Wix Website plans is considerable for what they offer. If you really want to work with the Wix website builder, we recommend investing in one of the more flexible business and ecommerce plans.

Wix pricing FAQ

How much does Wix cost per month?

The monthly cost of Wix depends on the Wix pricing plan you choose and your location. The following Wix pricing is available for US residents:

Wix Light: $16 per month, billed annually ($192 per year).
Wix Core: $27 per month, billed annually ($324 per year).
Wix Business: $32 per month, billed annually ($384 per year).
Wix Business Elite: $159 per month, blled annually ($1908 per year).

Are there any additional Wix fees?

In your first term, you don’t have to pay anything except for the hosting fee. However, when you renew your site, you’ll have to pay a separate registration fee (typically $14.95 per year + the cost of domain privacy) for your domain. This also doesn’t include domain privacy, so if you want to protect your information, you’ll have to pay an additional fee for that as well.

There may be other fees as well, depending on how you plan to use Wix. For example, if you need professional email, you’ll have to purchase that separately. Many of the apps in the App Marketplace also require additional fees.

What is Wix domain cost?

Renewing your domain registration will cost $14.95 per year, plus $9.90 per year for domain privacy, totaling $24.85 per year. You can reduce the main registration fee to $12.95 per year by renewing for three years. Note that the cost may vary based on the domain extension you choose.

How many Wix premium plans are there?

There are four Wix Website plans.

Is Wix free?

Wix does offer a free plan with 500MB of storage and 500MB of bandwidth. All free Wix sites use subdomains and have ads placed on them to cover the cost of hosting.

Is there a Wix free trial?

There is no free trial for Wix. However, there is a 14-day money-back guarantee. If you decide Wix isn’t for you within two weeks of paying for your plan, you’ll get a full refund, no questions asked.

What does Wix cost outside of the US?

Wix offers plans in many different currencies. The prices also vary somewhat based on where you live, though they’re generally similar to US prices.

Final advice on Wix pricing

All in all, Wix pricing is more affordable than popular competitors, like Squarespace and Shopify. However, the Website plans offer limited monetization options; you can get the best value for your dollar by investing in the Business Basic plan right away. This will give you access to all of the tools you need to monetize your business by selling products, services, and event tickets.
