Role Overview
We are searching for a Tech Lead to architect and drive the evolution of our WordPress ecosystem. This role is perfect for a hands-on senior engineer who thrives on solving complex technical challenges and leading from the front.
You’ll be responsible for guiding a talented team of WordPress developers, ensuring best practices in engineering, and jumping in as the “developer of last resort” to untangle the most stubborn issues.
This is a mission-critical role with global impact — and we’re counting on your expertise to set the bar for technical excellence.
What You’ll Do
• Serve as the technical authority on all WordPress projects
• Provide architectural guidance, oversee code quality, and enforce best practices
• Lead and mentor a distributed team of WordPress developers
• Debug, optimize, and rescue underperforming or broken sites
• Ensure site stability, performance, and scalability
• Coordinate with Product, Design, and DevOps to deliver polished, scalable solutions
• Conduct code reviews, set technical direction, and uphold Breadstack engineering standards
What You Bring
Core Technical Skills
• 3+ years of advanced WordPress development experience
• Mastery of:
• PHP, SQL, and the WordPress API (incl. REST)
• ACF / ACF Blocks
• JavaScript (vanilla, jQuery, AJAX), Node.js, Gulp, npm
• CSS frameworks: SCSS, Bootstrap, Tailwind
• Composer, JSON, and 3rd-party API integrations
• Git CLI: merging, rebasing, conflict resolution
• Strong in:
• Debugging & optimizing for perfect Lighthouse scores
• Translating designs into responsive, pixel-perfect frontends
• Crisis recovery from crashes or urgent production bugs
• Connecting WordPress with external systems or platforms
Advanced Systems Knowledge
• MVC/OOP principles
• SSH & Linux command-line workflows
• Jira for Agile/Scrum workflows
• Familiarity with CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes
