Brilliant and most resourceful post. One of my blogs recently went down due to a plugin error, its definitely worth investing the time in getting your database optimised and I’ve only just started using wp super cache.

Interesting that. On a recent project the content was image heavy and so caching was pretty much a must and had a massive improvement on the load time.

Excellent post!
It actually reminded me of some actions I have to take to make my blog better.

I’m a little sceptic about caching via htaccess. That way you have to use serials/timestamps for your files if you’ve updated them and want everybody to see those updates asap.

I’ve used it on a project but as I remember it didn’t have a very big effect.

If you use … ExpiresByType text/html "access plus 600 seconds" … Firefox users won’t see their own comments for 600 seconds after posting. This happens sometimes (?) in IE too.
